Nantucket Friendship Basket by Jose Formoso Reyes

This is a handsome Nantucket basket with a hardwood swing handle, signed on the bottom "Jose Formoso Reyes" and dated 1961 with a map of the island and the words "Made In Nantucket".  The lid has an oval mahogany panel with an ivory carving of a sperm whale. The basket has had repairs made to the hinges and lock loop as well as cane on lid.  The sharp tip of the whale's lower fluke is broken off.             H. to top of handle 10 1/2";  L. 9½" : W. 6½"
