Hopi Wicker Basket

A small Hopi wicker basket with a design of a solid green circle within an open square with solid colors in green and red.  The green has faded somewhat but the red maintained it most of its original brightness. This early Hopi basket was collected in 1906 on the Hopi reservation by Phillip and Nannie Sayles who worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs at the Indian School at Keams Canyon as a "disciplinarian" and teacher respectively from December 1905 to October 1906.  Given its age, it is in excellent condition.
