Large Chehalis Basket with Bird Figures Along the RIm

This is a very interesting Chehalis basket. The design incorporates vertical panels of two box like figures, very similar to classic Skookomish baskets. These  vertical designs slant to the right on this basket. The band of small birds just under the rim are small and close together which increases the attractiveness of the basket. The basket is woven in wrapped twining, typical of Chehalis baskets,  rather than the plain twining and overlay used by the Skokomish. This is a wonderful and unusual basket from Western Washington.
