Papago Figural Lidded Basket with Horses and Turtle

This is a wonderfully hand woven basket features horses that circle the body of the basket and a turtle on the lid. This basket is great condition for its age. Please note the   three or four missing sticthes on the lid of the basket.


The Papago (Tohono O'odham - the Desert people) originate from the Sonoran Desert in Southern Arizona and Mexico. Baskets made by the tribe were used in everyday life for things like carrying water, cooking, or storing personal items. They used native plant of the desert, such as Yucca, Beargrass, and Devil’s claw.
