Klickitat Lidded Globular Imbricated Basket

This is one of a small number of globular lidded fully imbricated baskets that some Klickitat basket makers produced in the 1930's into the 1950's. This one has designs in dark brown, reddish brown and near the bottom bands of light red dyed bear grass. It is in excellent condition and would be a wonderful addition to any collection of Plateau basketry or collection of unusual or rare basketry. There is a picture of Elsie Thomas holding two of these globular baskets she wove in the 1930's at page 77 in Mary Schlick's important book: Columbia River Basketry.
