Josef Presser Oil Painting

$ 1,800.00

This is an untitled oil painting on board of a dark and brooding scene with dark buildings in the dimming light of a late fall evening by Joseph Presser (1907-1967).  It is an unusual subject matter and treatment for the artist whose work is known more for figurative work, and often more colorful. It is signed "J Presser" in the lower left corner. Presser is an important American artist who came to this country from Poland with his parents when he was 12. He studied at the Boston Museum School of Art for four years then left for Europe, returning to the East Coast in 1931 to continue his painting career.
