Nuu-Chah-Nulth Basketry Covered Float

This is an exceptional basketry object and it is artfully and beautifully woven. The bottom half of the basketry is open weave with red and blue colored bands and the upper half has the traditional wrapped twining with two bands of plain twining and a faded design of birds in flight and a canoe. Just below the top are two more bands of open weaving. The basket sits on the cedar structure that normally would secure a lid. When you turn it over, the emerald green glass of the float captivates you.
