Puget Sound Partially Imbricated Berry Basket

This is a large partially imbricated basket that has darkened with age and use. It has six rolled cloth tie downs around the basket below the rim and one near the base. The design has a number of crosses with single or double arms in 5 staggered bands. It is fully imbricated for about an inch below the rim and has dark rectangular figures with two single beargrass imbrications spaced with in the band which give them a face like appearance. Where this figure sits above a cross, it appears like a human figure. The basket is in excellent condition, commensurate with its age and use. This is a good basket for the collector who enjoys baskets which were made for their own use and used.
