Large Chehalis Basket
This is a large twined basket. It has a cedar bark checkered start with a barber pole band around the bottom and three bands of cedar "beading" around the body of the basket. These bands are bordered on both sides by a narrow band of black and red twining. It has a braided rim I am calling this a Chehalis basket but it may be a Quinault basket, as they did a wide variety of styles of baskets in the 20th century. Whichever it is, it is an interesting basket in excellent condition and will look good when on display or in a collection.
