"Warriors Dance" Mask By Darren R. McKenzie

$ 995.00

This simple, yet striking mask dates from early in Darren McKenzie's career. The natural wood grain of the mask provides a warm neutral foundation for the high color contrast of turquoise-green and red orange that swirl around half of the face. Black has been used to emphasize the eyes, nose and mouth.  The mask has two lengths of horse hair that have been attached to hang from the left and the right sides of the mask. They are approximately 22" in length.

Darren R. McKenzie (Cowessess First Nation) began his carving career in 1993 while studying under Salish artist Gerry Sheena. His education in painting, sculpture and Native American art history supported him as his talent and passion grew. His passion for this traditional art form led to a 4 year apprenticeship with master carver Ken Mowatt. He continues to carve and offers workshops.
