Roman Silver Votive

Depicting three-quarter bust of qoddess facing within decorative borders. Silver votives were common in the Roman Empire. Though it is not certain which goddess this votive depicts, it may be supposed that it is Cybele, The Great Mother, or Artemis (Diana). One might recall the silversmiths' riot as depicted in the Book of Acts when the silversmiths confronted St. Paul because his "new religion" might put an end to their votive carving profession.
