Plains Indian Doll Dress

This is a Plains Indian doll dress without the doll. It is made with two older pieces of leather. The beaded upper part of the dress looks like it may have been done earlier. It is more soiled and has shorter fringe off of the sleeves. The skirt section is made with softer leather, soiled and worn, but lighter in color than the top and with longer fringe. The two sections are joined with thread but the beadwork on both sections is sinew sewn. My guess is that a mother made the dress for her daughter using an existing upper section.
