Hopi Striped Blanket with Indigo

This is a classic late 19th Century Hopi striped blanket with six bands composed of narrow brown stripes and three indigo blue stripes bordered by a brown stripe along each side.  The side and end cords are a light red wool. This blanket was collected by Captain Horatio Gates Sickel, who was stationed in Arizona with the 7th US Cavalry in the mid 1890's.  SIckel, an 1876 graduate of West Point had been appointed to the 7th Cavalry following the Custer Massacre.
