Late 19th Century Modoc Basket

This is an early Modoc Basket. It has dark triangles on a light beargrass background. It has a band of vertical green wool rectangles below the rim. It has red trade cloth sewn over the rim. The weaver used thin metal wire under the red trade cloth along the rim.  There is some wear or moth damage on the red trade cloth. The basket is well woven and the beargrass has darkened over the years. If you appreciate really old and unusual baskets from this area, this will be a good addition to your collection.
