Inuit fossilized Ivory Fishing Lure with Baleen Attachment
This is a good example of the kind of fishing lures the Eskimo used in the 19 th century. It has a hook coming out below the head which has two copper or lead inlaid eyes. The walrus ivory piece was well chosen as it has a dark brownish top and a lighter colored bottom. The long narrow baleen piece is wrapped in several places with sinew wrappings to keep it together. A good fishing artifact.
L. of Lure 3 ⅞"; Baleen attachment 5 ⅛"
