Eskimo Lidded Basket with Sealgut Design

This handsome Eskimo basket has a design of vertical panels of red and black triangles in black and red dyed sealgut. It has a slip in it that says it was made by Lene Atii from the village of Kwigillingok. Sealgut was used in the designs of earlier Eskimo baskets but by the 1950's most of the designs on Eskimo baskets were done in dyed beach grass. It is nice to see a basket in the old style.
