Mela Youngblood Blackware Prayer Bowl
This black Santa Clara pottery vessel is in the shape of a Pueblo prayer bowl with the walls forming four stepped projections marking the four directions. It was made by Mela Youngblood (1931-1990) who was the daughter of Margaret Tafoya. It is a highly visual form that will make a strong statement in a collection. It is signed "Mela Youngblood Santa Clara Pue" and dated 1/11/74. The book, "Seven Families in Pueblo Pottery", which belonged to the original owner, comes with this prayer bowl.
