19th Century Bone Roach Spreader and Decorated Tube
The bone or possibly antler roach spreader is in the shape of a keyhole with a swallow tail. It has a central hole in the front and a decoration of 9 smaller holes down the body. These holes have been drilled from both sides. The tube for holding the eagle feather is carved at both ends and the upper body is incised with a "V" pattern which has been stained red. The lower half is wrapped with fine metal wire. It still has the rawhide thong with holds the feather and holds the tube to the body of the spreader. 30 years ago or more, I bought this after untying the decorated eagle feather which it held and returning the feather to the owner.
L. of Spreader 4 ½"; W. 1 ¾"; H. of Tube 1 ½"
