Siting Polar Bear on Fossilized Ivory Base

This is an exceptional piece of art. The bear is siting with his mouth open, resting on his forelegs, the details of his body are well carved, including his tail. He is artfully carved from a piece of fossilized ivory such that his face is carved from a dark part of the ivory. The rest of his body varies from shades of brown to warm cream.  He sits on a fossilized fragment of possibly a sled runner which had been used as a "fire starter". Even later it was used as a pen holder.
