Inuit Walrus Ivory Carving of a Polar Bear Attacking a Walrus
This is a stop motion moment in a life and death struggle in the Arctic. The smaller polar bear has caught the startled walrus from behind and has crawled on top of it with the claws of its left front paw grabbing the walrus's neck as the bear buries his teeth in the front of the walrus's neck. The bear's right paw is on the walrus's right front flipper and the right leg holds down the rear flippers. This is a great carving. The artist has carved the bear's claws and blackened them to enhance the effect. The artist has carved his name in the base. This is a large and dramatic ivory sculpture.
