Early Hopi Seed Jar

This early Hopi seed jar was collected in 1906 on the Hopi reservation by Phillip and Nannie Sayles who worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs at the Indian School at Keams Canyon as a "disciplinarian" and teacher respectively from December 1905 to October 1906.  Given its age, it is in excellent condition.  The jar is not as dark as the photograph shows and the surface is not as polished as it appears in the photograph.  It was on loan to a museum for a number of years and has the ink identification "596/106" on the bottom. This is an exceptional piece for the collector of earlier Hopi pottery.
