Hopi Jar by Helen Naja, Featherwoman (1922-1993)

$ 675.00

This is a beautiful jar with the classic design of the Awatovi star and bird feathers. The jar is white slipped with designs primarily in black and red. It is signed with a feather image. The jar is in excellent condition without any cracks or chips. This is from the Southwest pottery collection of Rhonda Mast.

Award winning Helen Naha, known for signing her pottery with a feather design, learned her craft from Paqua Naha, her mother-in-law, the first Frog Woman. Developing her own aesthetic over the years, she has set herself apart using predominantly white clay slip in her work, developing her own imagery and composition inspired by pottery fragments found at the Atwatovi ruins of Hopi 1st Mesa, using bee-weed and natural clay slips.
