Large Cameroon Figural Ceramic Tobacco Pipe

$ 195.00

This is a most unusual and interesting piece. The front of the pipe has a long round base with heavy designs with a face with round eyes and thick downward facing horns at the top where the bowl is. Behind the bowl is a second large opening that would have secured the large pipe stem. The entire pipe has designs on it with a netted pattern on the back. The pipe was collected by Gilbert Schneider who traveled to Cameroon in 1946 as a missionary and operated a care facility there for people who suffered from leprosy, returning to the US in 1961. This is an interesting and very visual object and would be a strong object to own whether you collected African art or not
