Excavated Fossilized Ivory Figural Ulu
$ 665.00
This is rare excavated fossilized walrus ivory ulu with the head of an animal, possibly a bear, on one end. It has worn scrimshawed design on the nose of the critter and on both sides and the top of the body. It has a deep groove running from the mouth to the back of the body on both sides. Along the bottom of this groove on both sides are fine vertical lines. The ivory body is uniformly brown and well worn. It appears to have been used over a long period. It has a slate blade which may or may not have been the original blade. This is a rare and wonderful piece of early Inuit art.
