Wasco Sally Bag
D.7 ¼"; H. 12 ½"
This is a tall Plateau root bag with a diagonal design and a cotton fabric sewn over the rim to protect it from damage when it is being used. This kind of bag is usually identified as Wasco but it could have been made by other Plateau people such as the Yakima along the Columbia River drainage. The start of the basket and warp is all native material as well as the dark brown band below the rim and along the base and the dark brown vertical lines in the diagonal bands. The lighter color material on the basket is cornhusk. This basket was a working basket but has been well taken care of. This is a really good basket for a collector who really appreciates Plateau baskets which were made for their own use.
