Mayac signed Scimashawed Ivory Puffin
This is a beautiful example of the refined scrimshaw one sees in the better Eskimo cared and scrimshawed figures. The inked lines on the upper body are thin, even and precise. This is an exceptional piece. It has traces of stain to the bill and feet. It is signed with an initial I think is an "A" and the last name Mayac, a very important eskimo family of carvers from King Island. There is only one flaw. His right leg was broken and reattached with glue.
H. 1 ⅞"
