Carved Blackware Pot by Sophie Cata

This wonderful little Santa Clara blackware pot is by Sophie Cata (b. 1957) and features one of her deeply carved designs. Her training began at 6 years old, learning the craft from her mother, Frances Salazar and grandmother, Flora Naranjo. It is clear that their designs and techniques have influenced her style. The pot has a great sense of visual weight and a perfect edition to any collection.
