Blackfoot Panel Leggings c. 1870
The leggings are on yellow ocher stained buffalo with heavy fringe along the outside edge with short added fringe below the panels. Each legging has a stylized buffalo head above each panel which is composed of a bifurcated triangle with half red and half wool trade cloth which is outlined in tiny pink and blue beads with pink and blue thin triangles at each of the three corners. The panels have beaded areas and trade cloth areas and are bordered by faded green and red trade cloth as well as cotton and possibly silk ribbon.The panels have two different red trade cloths in them. Most of the beading is done on cotton thread but there is some sinew used in the panels. The red cloth in the panels have faded and these is some moth damage to these.
