Torres Strait Wooden Spear Head
This is the spearhead from a spear that was given to me in the 1940's by a family that had been given it by a returning soldier who fought in the South Pacific during the war. I was told that it was from Thursday Island. It was attached to a shaft by native cordage and what looked like mud. Over the years, it got separated from the shaft. In the right light or with a loop one can see traces of a linear design and a checkered pattern on one side of the head. One of the barbs has a long chip on one side of it.
