Northwest Coast Totem Pole

This is a very complicated carved wooden totem pole from British Columbia. It has five figures on it. The top figure is a bear who looks off to his right while holding on to the large head of a human figure. The head of the figure has it's mouth open as if yelling and the figure holds on to the bear's feet as it sits on a killer whale. The killer whale is curved in an almost 180 degree angle and is biting the shoulder of a second human who is sitting with its hands on its knees facing to the left. This figure sits on another critter who is sitting in a crouch. The faces of the bear and the two humans are wonderfully expressive. The totem pole may never have had a base. It may have been intended to hang as it has an iron loop at the back.
