Santo Domingo Thunderbird Necklace

This classic Santo Domingo Thunderbird necklace originates from the Depression era when traditional materials were scarce and Native artists had to be creative in sourcing their materials. This necklace features turquoise chips and other repurposed material, including old black car battery casings for the backing and red plastic, probably from inexpensive dinnerware.  Along the strand of gypsum beads there are evenly spaced tabs that match the materials used in the Thunderbird pendant.
