Mandan Quilled Pipe Bag
Fully quilled Mandan pipe bag from Ft Berthold, North Dakota with a design of running diamonds on the body and a long section of quill wrapped rawhide slats and long fringe. The quill work is generally in very good condition with very little loss on the body and some loss on the quilled slats, particularly one outer slat. The quillwork is done in the flat folded technique favored by the Mandan rather than the plaited quillwork usually seen on Hidatsa quilling. The purple and the green of the dyed quills, commonly seen on quillwork from Ft. Berthold shows fading.
L. including fringe 40"; W. 7" where the quill panel joins the quilled slats.
