Old Pit River Basket with Fabric Rim
This is one of those old baskets that was made to be used by the people who made it. It is not pretty and has condition problems, but it is the real thing! It has a well worn checkered gingham cotton cloth covering the rim which has been on the rim for a long time. The shape is the old bulb shape with the shoulder of the basket close to the base. It has a simple but effective "V" shape design composed of stacked parallelograms. It has a long split just above the shoulder which has been somewhat successfully glued together. This basket is not for everyone but for those who venture out into old and unusual baskets that were not made for the market, this is an interesting piece to consider.
