J.H. Gillespie Miniature Portrait

J.H. Gillespie (1793- 1842) was one of the noted miniature portrait painters of his time. Born in England, he moved to Canada and began a serious career in art. In the 1830's, he toured the eastern U.S. seaboard and painted numerous portraits. This portrait is a young American naval officer.
