Chehalis Twined Basket

$ 950.00

Unusual twined basket from  Western Washington with a repeated design of narrow stepped bands in red and green or black and natural bear grass.  The rim is braided and has two double loops on opposing sides of the rim.  An unusual basket for collectors of Western Washington baskets.

I initially identified it as a Twana basket because the warp appears to be cattail.  However, the twining is a full wrap twining which is seen extensively on the Washington coast but not on Twana and Skokomish baskets.  Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.  It is still a very interesting early basket.
