SOUTHERN NEVADA PAIUTE COILED BASKET

This is a coiled basketry jar with a wide mouth with a slightly flaring rim.  It has a design composed of two horizontal bands of large outlined crosses.  The crosses alternate between caramel colored crosses of juncus and purplish brown crosses of dyed bulrush roots.  The basket is coiled on a three rod foundation. The basket has a self-finish rim with four blocks of alternating caramel or purplish brown stitches.  The basket is in good condition but is missing stitches in four areas along the rim.
