Yurok-Karok Basket

This is an exceptionally fine Northern California twined basket. It is beautifully woven with fine, even stitches and a striking design. The form is slightly bulbous with the widest diameter of the basket near the base tapering up to a slightly smaller diameter at the mouth. The strong black design motif in maidenhair fern is often referred to as the "foot" design and on this basket it alternates between facing up or facing down along an imaginary axis. This is a real gem of a basket.
