Plains Medicine Horn

This is a plains medicine horn collected between June 1891 and August 1892 by Lt Gordon Voorhies, who graduated from West Point in 1891 and was assigned to the US 25th Infantry at Fort Buford in North Dakota.  He was appointed commander of the Indian Scouts there in April 1892 and transferred to the 4th US  Cavalry at Fort Walla Walla in August 1892. The horn is sheep horn and the carrying strap is quill wrapped in sections.  The beadwork is in excellent condition.  This piece  descended down through the Voorheis family and had never been offered for sale before.
