Peruvian Pre-Columbian Basket

This is an ancient coiled basket from Southern Peru that had been collected in the 1950's by an engineer who worked in Southern Peru at that time. The basket has a rod foundation, is footed and has a herringbone finish on both the rim and the foot. The background is dark with a light colored design of a large "X" with a long vertical and horizontal bar through it which is repeated four times around the basket. Given its age, it is basically in good condition.
