William Spratling Cross Necklace

This is a beautiful vintage deep purple amethyst and sterling silver necklace designed and signed by Taxco silversmith William Spratling (1900-67). Known as the "Amethyst Wire Cross", it consists of a thick tubular silver scrollwork design with four amethyst cylinders that joined at the center to create a cross. The pendant is hallmarked WS, William Spratling, eagle # 30 and in excellent vintage condition. The heavy vintage chain is also marked with William Sprating's marks. 
This design has been pictured in two different titles: William Spratling and the Mexican Silver Renaissance by Penny Morrill (p. 150 and p. 210) and Mexican Silver by Pack/Davis (p. 181).
