Fully Imbricated Klickitat Basket By Elsie Kunakai (Thomas) with Flower Motif

This is a colorful and unusual Klickitat basket with a design of three large red flowers with stems with four petals on each.  The imbrication is uniform and even.  It comes out of an Estate and the original tag identifies the maker as Elsie Kunakai.  I believe this an earlier basket by Nettie Kuneki Jackson, but her mother, Elsie Thomas, also made baskets with flower motifs so the owner may have been confused about her last name.  In either event, it is a very visual basket and a good piece for a collector of Klickitat baskets
