19th C Decorated Bone Awl

This is a 19th century bone awl with five bands of crosshatching beginning about midway up the awl. The bands are about 3/16" wide and the crosshatching is very fine. The tip of the awl is missing, likely broken off a long time ago.  It is very unusual to have a decorated bone awl from the 19th century.  It came out of local estate with no information concerning where it was collected or who would have made it.
