Athabascan Wooden Ladle

A handsome ladle with carving on the handle and a large scoop shaped bowl. The bowl is stained a reddish color. The handle has a short notched section in the middle with a raised rectangular section toward the bowl with a leaf-like design. There is a rectangular opening at the rear of the handle for attaching possibly a cord. The bowl has two small splits on the tip. This ladle was collected in the interior of southwest Alaska in the Kuskokwim River drainage in the 1950's.
